昨年春にグランドオープンした「ONE FUKUOKA BLDG.｜ワン・フクオカ・ビルディング」の取り組みをまとめた書籍が、雑誌『新建築』の別冊として出版されました。
この開発プロジェクトには、まだ建物の名称すら決まる前、今から10年前の2016年に行われた「天神一丁目11番街区開発 基本計画策定」の段階に関わっていました。当時、西鉄エージェンシーを中心に編成されたチームの一員として、「この場所にどのような建築をつくるべきか？」という根本的な問いに向き合いながら、建物が目指すべき方向性や、それを体現する用途構成・階構成などの検討を行っていました。キーコンセプトとなっている「創造交差点｜MEETS DIFFERENT IDEAS」も、このチームでの議論から導き出されたものです。
こうした業務は、守秘義務の関係もあり、普段はあまり表に出ることのない仕事です。だからこそ、今回あらためて当時の議論や熱量を記録として残していただけたことを、とても光栄に感じています。同時に、この10年を振り返る、とても貴重な機会にもなりました。
また、『新建築』の四方編集長には、私たちが2005年から2014年まで友人たちと共同で企画・主宰していたデザインイベント「DESIGNING?」の活動とも接続しながら、俯瞰的な視点で編集をしていただきました。
この巨大なプロジェクトの裏側では、本当にたくさんの関係者が、それぞれの立場で長い時間をかけながら働き続けてこられたのだと思います。今回の書籍は、そうした一人ひとりの積み重ねや熱量の一端が記録されたものでもあるように感じています。ですので、福岡のみなさんにこそ、ぜひ読んでいただけたらなと思っています。

A special issue book documenting the development of “ONE FUKUOKA BLDG.”, which grand-opened last spring, has been published as an extra edition of Shinkenchiku magazine.
I was involved in this project during the “Tenjin 1-Chome 11 District Development Basic Planning” phase in 2016, nearly ten years ago, long before the building’s name had even been decided. As part of a team organized mainly by Nishitetsu Agency, we explored a fundamental question: “What kind of architecture should be created for this place?” Through discussions, we studied the overall direction the building should pursue, as well as the program composition and floor organization that could embody that vision. The key concept, “MEETS DIFFERENT IDEAS,” was also born through discussions within this team.
Work of this nature is rarely made public due to confidentiality requirements. That is why I feel truly honored that the discussions, energy, and ambitions from that time have now been documented in this publication. At the same time, it became a precious opportunity to reflect on the past ten years.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Editor-in-Chief Shikata of Shinkenchiku, who thoughtfully connected this story with “DESIGNING?”, the design event that we organized together with friends from 2005 to 2014, and edited it from a broader and more reflective perspective.
Behind a project of this scale, there are countless people who have continued working over many years from their respective positions. To me, this publication also captures a fragment of those individual efforts, passions, and accumulated experiences. For that reason, I especially hope that people in Fukuoka will take the opportunity to read it.
