兵庫県西脇市の現場確認へ。
昨年からファッションブランド「tamakiniime」の場づくりに関わっています。これまで、生産以外の拠点整備の監修と設計を担当し、この春からは新たな拠点の改修設計を進めています。

「tamakiniime」は、播州織をベースに、原料の調達から染め、織り、縫製、販売までを一貫して自社で行うブランドです。大量生産でありながら、すべての製品が一点ものという、独自のものづくりの姿勢を貫いています。

西脇市は、画家・横尾忠則さんの出身地でもあり、彼の作品「Y字路」に描かれているように、加古川の流れを中心に緩やかな山並みに囲まれた街のあちこちにY字路が点在しています。古くから残るノコギリ屋根の小さな工場建築群も、この街の風景をかたちづくってきました。

今回改修している建物も、Y字路に建つノコギリ屋根の古い工場建築。そのキャラクターを活かしながら、「tamakiniime」の多元的な表現を支える新たな拠点を目指しています。既存の木造躯体を生かしつつ、空調域を囲い込むショーケースを鉄骨造で挿入し、不足する構造耐力を補っています。

雨に濡れた姿もまた、美しい建築です。

Visited Nishiwaki, Hyogo.
Since last year, we’ve been working with the fashion brand tamakiniime to create spaces that reflect their philosophy and craft. Rooted in Banshu-ori, the brand handles everything in-house—from sourcing raw materials to dyeing, weaving, sewing, and selling. Each piece is one of a kind, embodying a quiet individuality within a larger flow of making.

Nishiwaki is also the hometown of artist Tadanori Yokoo, whose iconic “Y-shaped Roads” paintings capture the spirit of this town—gently surrounded by mountains, crossed by the Kakogawa River, and filled with Y-shaped intersections. Rows of small sawtooth-roof factories, remnants of its textile heritage, define the cityscape.

The building we’re renovating stands at one of these Y-shaped roads, an old sawtooth-roof factory. By embracing its character, we aim to create a new base that resonates with tamakiniime’s plural and evolving identity. Even in the rain, the building holds a quiet beauty.
